About Path.Finder

The Path.Finder project was an initiative by Wirral Hospitals NHS Trust in 1994 to provide a range of information to both local GPs and internal clinical staff. It was born from a recognised need to improve referral patterns and improve patient knowledge. The project expanded until in 1996 when the National Path.Finder Consortium was formed.

Path.Finder is a dedicated hypertext system, specifically written to enable Health Care Professionals to access information required to support modern clinical practice. The project won silver awards in both the best use of clinical IT systems and the best use of Primary Care IT systems, in the 1996 Healthcare IT Effectiveness awards.

The system is complimentary to the Clinical Pathways Initiative, acting as a means of passing evidence-based treatments on to clinicians in both primary and secondary care.
